SEVENTEEN Costa Ricans have been enjoying a week of Cornish hospitality, including a handson lesson in how to prepare and cook a pasty. Friendship Force Cornwall, which was set up by Jennie Dyson, of Ladock, 11 years ago, looked after the group from West Alajuela, Costa Rica.
Friendship Force is a community-based volunteer organisation which puts on exchanges to other countries. Members are matched with local hosts in whose home they live for one week.
The week of fun kicked off with a welcome party at Grampound, followed by a boat trip from Truro to Falmouth.
Then Yvonne Williams of Lower Landrine, who has been making Cornish pasties for more than 35 years, showed them how to prepare the tasty treat.
She said: “They were up for it until I showed them how to crimp. I’ve been making pasties for a long time and I am very quick. They thought it would be easy until they tried to crimp the edges, it was hilarious.”
Mrs Williams is an original member of Friendship Force in Cornwall and has travelled thousands of miles with her family enjoying the hospitality of host nations such as New Zealand, Australia, Japan, Germany and Russia.
